RGS Cricket Festival Winners

LRGS won the Royal Grammar School Cricket Festival, beating RGS Worcester (LRGS won by 82 runs), RGS Colchester (LRGS won by 6 wickets), RGS High Wycombe (LRGS won by 9 wickets), RGS Newcastle (LRGS won by 83 runs) and on the last day we held on under immense pressure to seal a very close victory against the hosts RGS Guildford (LRGS won by 3 wickets) as all 4 other schools, Staff and parents excitedly watched on!

The team scored 851 runs and took 50 wickets over the 5 days of cricket.

Ernie C was Captain; Joe P Vice-Captain; Player of the Festival was awarded to Matthew W for taking 12 wickets and scoring 140 runs and for the first time ever we had a Year 8 pupil representing the 1st XI at the Festival, in James P as our reserve wicket-keeper.

Thank you to all staff who followed and supported us and sent good luck messages. Thank you to Matt Rosbottom and Ian Ledward for giving up their time and energy to make the week so successful. It was also great to have Tony Burns with us studying the rules of the Festival, especially when rain on the final day threatened to cause havoc!

All pupils were a huge credit to the school both on and off the pitch. Their behaviour was exemplary.

Thank you to those parents who were able to come and support us and to all the teachers that provided this experience for our students and to those who covered lessons for absent teachers.
