Sixth Form
LRGS is a successful state day and boarding school, with a vibrant coeducational Sixth Form of 400 students. As one of the top grammar schools in the country, our Sixth Form students consistently attain a high level of academic achievement.
Around three-quarters of our A-level results are at A*, A or B grade and almost all of our leavers go on to university, many of them to the most competitive institutions, including 10-12% to Oxford and Cambridge.
Our Results page gives a detailed breakdown of our most recent AS and A-level results by subject, and shows university destinations.
Our latest Ofsted inspection found that 'Attainment in the Sixth Form is well above that found nationally' and rated the Sixth Form 'Outstanding'.

Joining the Sixth Form
Many of our students have been with us since Year 7, but every year we welcome about 80 new students, some as boarders, from schools in Lancashire, Cumbria and further afield, directly into the Sixth Form. See our Admissions page for further details of how to join.
As a state boarding school, education is free for all students and we also offer affordable weekly boarding for boys and girls at highly competitive rates. This is a popular option and a great preparation for university life. We welcome students who have high ambition and who are on track to achieve academic or extracurricular success to apply for our boarding scholarships.

Coeducational
Sixth Form became coeducational in 2019. Each year over 30 girls join us as day pupils. We welcomed girls into boarding from 2020. Sixth Formers will benefit from the different approaches that boys and girls bring to the classroom, providing our students with the best preparation for life beyond school.
