We would like to draw parents' attention to the various sources of funding that may be available to those who are experiencing financial difficulties. If your son is in Sixth Form, please see Sixth Form Bursaries below.
The following two are funds set up and funded by former pupils. The schemes allow pupils to take full advantage of all that the school has to offer and, hopefully, provide them with opportunities that perhaps they had thought not possible.
To apply or enquire about any of the below, please email Jenny Cornell, Development Director, or call 01524 580608.
All applications are dealt with strictest confidence.
The Lune Scholarship
The Lune Scholarship Fund offers help towards uniform and school wear costs, sports gear and equipment, or towards travel costs to and from home.
There is no application form for the Lune Scholarship as such, so please contact the Development Director for details.
The Opportunities Fund
The Opportunities Fund gives discretionary financial assistance if pupils need help to go on extra-curricular trips, have a once in a lifetime opportunity or are representing a recognised body of distinction outside of school.
An application form for this fund can be found here.
The CCF Bursary Fund
The LRGS CCF Bursary Fund has generously been endowed by former parents, Professor Katherine Leni Oglesby and Mr Alan Wellings, in memory of their late son, Giles. The scheme is funded solely from donations made by Giles’ parents.
The purpose of the scheme is to provide financial support for individual cadets to participate in camps, course and other CCF and CCF-related events when they would otherwise be hindered from doing so by not being able to afford the costs. An information sheet can be found here.
Pupil Premium and Free School Meals
These are accessed via the local authority. For more information please see this link to Lancashire County Council. If you require further assistance in accessing Pupil Premium or Free School Meals, please email Ian Whitehouse, Head of Pastoral Support, or ring 01524 580622.
Sixth Form Bursaries
Student bursary money is available to help with any expenditure that is incurred as a Sixth Form student at LRGS. This could inculde travel to school each day, a new suit or laptop, a school trip or travel to go on university open days. It can provide substantial sums to help boys from a household with an income less than £20,000 per year, and significant help for those with up to twice that. Those on the Free School Meals list qualify automatically without the need to show any paperwork.
