The LRGS Big Band were brilliant, playing at Lancaster Brewery in the Lancaster Jazz Festival;  rugby teams from the under-13s to the first XV were (for the most part) enjoying the mud, either at home on the Memo fields or away with an early start to Wakefield;  the first Saturday rowing session of term was underway on the River Lune, with vital staff and parental support. 

Boarders’ activities were either on site or on local trips – including a surprising number up early enough for the 5km parkrun in leafy Williamson Park, next door to the school! 

Meanwhile the History department had already left for the First World War battlefields, taking forty-four pupils to Thiepval and the Somme;  while two hundred visitors came through the doors of Old School House for an exhibition and tours with Sixth Formers as part of the city’s Heritage Open Day. 

Not that everyone’s weekend should be marked by frantic activity.  For plenty it was time to rest and reflect on a first week of a new place and new people.
