Instead of their lessons, all pupils engaged in a carousel of six activities led by staff looking at some of the issues, behaviours and solutions linked to staying safe online. 

The objectives of Safer Internet Day are to enable pupils to develop knowledge, routines and competencies to stay safe online. This included methods to moderate their online interactions so that they can identify signs of manipulative, pressurising or threatening behaviour and respond safely to it as well as understand the importance of seeking help from a trusted adult or support service when they need it.  Students learned about the consequences of sharing images online along with strategies for how to deal with peer pressure and requests for images. 

Pupils also considered how news is presented and how data is manipulated to support particular opinions. They also considered ethical choices linked to academic integrity to encourage them to make wise decisions when it comes to research, homework and exam preparation. 

We plan to continue delivering Safer Internet sessions next term with a parental session over Teams to raise awareness amongst parents and carers of the messages we have communicated with pupils and to share key tips that we think will be useful in helping to keep your children safe online.  

We also intend to share these sessions with Year 8 and 9 pupils next year.
